In the queue for the freight or the freight in the queue ? Interactions between trucks and passenger cars have a significant impact on the traffic performance of motorways. This paper deals with the results of a study focusing at the introduction of an overtaking ban for trucks. Various flow situations are dealt with using a heterogeneous dynamic model. Gains and losses in travel time are used as decision criterion, whereas travel time cost is considered to be different between the various travel modes. The results of the analyses indicate that: The introduction of an overtaking ban for trucks becomes more interesting as passenger car demand increases; The advantages of such a ban decreases as passenger car demand exceeds capacity and/or truck demand increases and/or the number of lanes (per direction) increases.
