The results of a research into the behaviour of the steady state traffic flow of a two-lane carriageway of a motorway are presented. Characteristics of the integral flow as well as aspects of the driving behaviour within the flow are discussed, both in relationship with the traffic intensity. Main conclusions are that the total carriageway intensity determines the traffic performance on both lanes. The lane intensity does not determine the traffic performance on that lane. It is not possible to discuss the traffic per lane. The average speed on both lanes decreases a little with the increasing intensity. With an increasing intensity only the left lane becomes full. The right lane remains with an intensity of 1200 vehicles per hour. The intensity on the left lane was 2000-3000 vehicles per hour.
