The role of the bicycle within conurbations should be reconsidered. Not only the use of the bicycle on short distances should be stimulated.Especially the role of the bicycle in pre- and posttransport trips to and from the public transport should bestrengthened.Moreover, the substitution of non- paying short public transport trips by bicycle trips can contribute to a more optimal utilization of the capacity of public transport.
