This report is one of a series of 'Annual Road Safety Reports'. These are annual SWOV publications that deal with the size and nature of road safety, together with its developments. In the report, the developments in the numbers of accidents and victims during the last few decades and the year 2000 are analysed. Although the situations and developments in the Netherlands take priority, brief comparisons are made with developments in other countries. Trends, backgrounds, and explanations of the data are presented. Attention is also paid to possible influences of weather and e-commerce on road safety. The report is concluded with a discussion about expectations for 2010.
