This book is an elaboration of the idea that, if we want a more important role for public transport and the so-called "slow-traffic" (pedestrians and bicyclists), the railway station must be again considered a structural element in the construction of towns. In townplanning, routes for slow traffic should more and more form the basis for the design. Having defined the problem and analysed the system characteristics, new town planning concepts are mentioned. All these elements are being worked out in a practical example, i.e. a project in the city of leiden. Some techniques to visualise the problems that can be encountered with designing the road to the station are given.
