Samenvatting

Editor—None of the articles on road traffic accidents in the issue of 8 July mentions the use of daytime running lights (the use of dipped headlights all day regardless of lighting conditions), which are compulsory in several European countries and have been shown to result in a significant reduction in accidents. A review in Bandolier mentions a reduction of up to 15% from different studies. Surely this warrants further research, and if the results are confirmed we should be advocating compulsory dipped headlights all day. This would cost nothing and should save substantial numbers of lives. (Author/publisher)
