Samenvatting

VicRoads has undertaken wheel tracking deformation and dynamic and static creep testing of 10 registered asphalt mixes supplied from five different Melbourne producers all using different aggregate types. In all, a total of 55 mixes of various sizes and types were tested. Most of these mixes have been extensively used for heavy duty pavements in and around the metropolitan area of Melbourne over the past 10 to 25 years and have a history of satisfactory performance. The mix types evaluated were Dense Graded and Stone Mastic Asphalt with and without PMB and Fine Gap Graded Asphalt without PMB. Each asphalt type was tested by the wheel tracking test to determine the Final Tracking Depth, Steady Tracking Rate, and the European (CEN) Tracking Rate and also each asphalt type was tested for Minimum Dynamic Creep Slope and Static Creep Flow Time. The mean value for each of these properties was determined for each mix. A table of mix ranking was produced and these rankings were compared in a number or ways.
