Samenvatting

The delay of traffic at isolated intersections is discussed. Traffic streams are described in terms of probability density functions of the time-gaps (headways) between cars crossing the intersections. Methods of probability theory are then used to estimate such quantities as the average waiting time of an individual car whose movement through the intersection is impeded by cross traffic.
