Samenvatting

This paper deals with the hardware and control system design of a low power active suspension system for a passenger car application. The theoretical analysis is supplemented with hardware design aspects and an evaluation of the ride and handling qualities of a modified mid-size sportscar equipped with a newly developed actuator system. The suspension system denoted by Delft Active Suspension (DAS) is able to suppress the low frequent sprung mass motions (such as roll during cornering or pitch during braking/accelerating) using only a small amount of energy. Besides being able to control the vehicle's attitude, DAS can also be applied for improving the ride when the vehicle is operated on an uneven road (vibration control).
