Samenvatting
Recent trends in the demand for petrol are analysed using the technique of multiple regression. Three alternative theories of demand are tested and appropriate explanatory equations are derived. The broad conclusion is that total consumer expenditure, and not the price of petrol, is the most important determinant of demand. Some implications for traffic forecast are suggested.
