Samenvatting

This paper describes the four demand responsive bus services in the Rutex programme: the market bus, flexibus, Medwyn gipsy, and ruralink, their booking systems, time keeping, route restrictions and passenger reactions. The performance of Rutex demand responsive buses compared with fixed route services is analysed as regards costs, passengers and revenue. The effect of demand density on performance is discussed together with the economic aspects which are markedly influenced by scheduling and route planning according to the changing patterns of demand. For the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD no 248815.
