Samenvatting

The major quistion to be addressed in this paper is "What is the relationship of motorcycle braking performance and directional stability and control to primary safety, namely the ability to control a cycle so as to avoid loss of control". To aid in answering this question, the unique braking and handling characteristics of the single-track vehicle are examined below in terms of the control demands imposed on the rider, who serves as the human controller of this particular machine.
