Samenvatting

This paper describes the systems architecture of the prototype Advanced Public Transport System (APTS) called APTS BusView. This system displays the following information on a single Geographical Information System (GIS) screen: 1) real time bus locations from an Advanced Vehicle Location (AVL) system operated by Seattle Metro; and 2) real time motorway congestion data obtained from the Traffic Systems Management Centre (TSMC) operated by Washington State Department of Transport. The systems architecture is presented first, followed by a description of how the system works. The benefits which are expected to accrue from the system are then listed.
