GEOGRACOM 5W is a system of the strategic type. It is meant to answer only one question -- how to develop a transport network for all transport modes aiming at achievement of the strategic indices of regional development. These indices are GDP per capita, strategic development period, social costs in the budget, life expectancy, environmental pollution. GEOGRACOM 5W is an expert system with a database built on the knowledge of several transport specialists with the application of decision rules. GEOGRACOM 5W is capable of generating decisions needed for a proper development of a united transport regional network and based on the principle of economic and social sustainability with due regard to the available financial support required for achievement of the strategic indices mentioned above. GIS is incorporated in GEOGRACOM 5W. GEOGRACOM 5W is being used in more than 20 regions of Russia and the CIS. It was also used for the strategy of development of Kazakhstan up to 2030.
