Samenvatting

The compatibility between the infrastructure and its surroundings must meet at least two criteria if it is ultimately to lead to a satisfying result. Firstly, the question of compatibility must be examined comprehensively, with the surrounding region being considered fully as part of the question. Secondly, such consideration must take place early on in the design process if the best possible result is to be achieved. This paper does not discuss the substance of the compatibility issue. but only touches on the theoretical structures which will make it easier to tackle this issue, or any other issue related to traffic, transport and space, in the manner described. These theoretical structures have been derived in part from urban engineering. (A)
