Samenvatting

The guided automated individual transportation system is a track system running in tubes through which individual vehicles run automatically. These vehicles can be either people-containers or merchandise-containers and thus the system will have a high utilization factor. It is suitable for cities with populations from a few hundred thousand up to a million and can be built on an expandable basis. At suburban junctions, cars can leave the terminal and be driven to homes on ordinary roads. These vehicles are all electrically powered from storage batteries. Economic and human-factors impacts of the system have been assessed. Other proposed methods of automated transportation are summarized, as are various new means of ground transportation. Several appendices go into greater detail; there are 362 references. /bpr/
