Given the international interest in the large-scale use of electric vehicles, a drive train is required that can be produced in volume at a competitive cost. To this end, controllers are needed which are both reliable and cost-effective. Good design practice and a production-orientated approach are essential. This paper describes how such an approach can be applied to the power stage, in particular, the power semiconductors, cooling, transient suppression and current measurement. (A)
