Samenvatting

Many individuals, groups, institutions and organisations are involved in enhancing road safety. Given the fact that these persons and organisations need more information as well as more educational material and methods there is a good reason to expect that the new possibilities of multimedia environments, developed during the last years, will bring solutions for a series of instructional road safety needs. For these environments (CD-rom, CD-i, combinations of both, the interactive transfer of data and knowledge etc.) efficient programs have to be designed. Without the necessary human and financial support these programs cannot be ready in due time. Program-designers have to look for co-operation. To work out the necessary programs in detail an integrated set of 4 different programs can be considered; one for: (1) young children; (2) secondary school students; (3) learner drivers; and (4) experts. For the instructional needs of the teachers (in some cases: parents, grandparents, peer teaching) it can also be interesting to develop a program explaining the overall problems of road traffic. This program can obviously be used by the learners themselves as well. The programs to be developed have to be user-defined rather than system-defined. It is our task to complete a practical analysis of all the problems to be solved (see e.g problems concerning "edutainment") to satisfy a wide range of learning needs. (A)
