Passing lanes are geometrically similar to truck climbing lanes, but they are constructed in locations where truck climbing lane warrants are not met. In general, s spacing of passing lanes at intervals of 5 to 15 miles will satisfy the 30% warrant with higher volume roads requiring the closer spacing- any highway being considered for passing lanes should be studied to determine the parameters for the proper design of a passing lane.
