Samenvatting

As a result, over the past decade, a vast amount of research on highway safety has been concentrated on accident reduction on expressways. Extensive recording of accident data makes it possible now to more reliably determine accident cause. The accident histories of sections of highways, with varying geometric features, have been compared. Model and dynamic tests have tested the efficiencies of several types of protective devices. This paper discusses this research and relates it to the selection of roadway cross-sections, the design and location of essential structures and the choice of protective devices.
