New vehicle detection and surveillance technologies are constantly being developed and existing technologies improved, to provide speed monitoring,traffic counting, presence detection, headway measurement, vehicle classification, and weigh-in-motion (WIM) data. This article discusses various technologies being used, such as number plate recognition, vehicle presencesensors, CCTV security equipment, and digital imaging technology which provides speed enforcement on up to three lanes of traffic.
