Samenvatting

Prior to World War II, concrete pavements were introduced into some urban areas east of the Melbourne CBD. These lightly loaded pavements have performed reasonably well over the years and sixty to seventy years after their construction are still providing service to the public. An assessment of the condition of the pavement set was made as part of a final year research project at Swinburne University. The outcome indicated that the lightly loaded concrete pavements provided a high level of service for a long period of time with only a minor amount of maintenance. The deterioration of the pavement condition was slow in comparison to that of flexible pavements and the life cycle cost was low for the long-lived pavements. (A)
