Visibility curves were determined for an experimental direction indicator at different distances (10-75 mm) and in different positions from the head lamps (of the asymmetrical, halogen or scaled beam type of a passenger car in a simulated position of overtaking and via a rear-view mirror. It is shown that the type of headlamp has a greater effect on the visibility of the direction indicators than the distance between these. It is concluded that direction indicator with the standardized luminance intensity of 175 cd is sufficiently visible even if placed indirect contact with the head lamp.
