Samenvatting

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. have developed an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system which controls Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The system measures the distance to the preceding vehicle using a scanning laser radar. The scanning laser radar used is particularly capable of target discrimination on curved roads compared to other radar systems. The ACC system controls throttle position and the gear ratio of the CVT in order to maintain vehicle speed smoothly with an appropriate distance to the preceding vehicle. Deceleration is smooth and efficient because the gear ratio is controlled by the CVT. It was possible to realise this system at reasonable cost. This should lead to greater popularity of the system.
