Samenvatting

Novice drivers are at greater risk of collision than more experienced drivers. However, little is known about the critical perceptual and cognitive skills that novice drivers lack through inexperience which contribute to their greater risk of collision. In 1995 the Victorian Transport Accident Commission contracted the Monash University Accident Research Centre to undertake a program of simulator research culminating in the development of specifications for a CD-ROM based training product for accelerating in young novice drivers the development of these skills. This paper reviews the outcomes of this research program. (A)
