Samenvatting

This paper describes a study aimed at developing a test of self-control ability in traffic, studying sex and age differences with regard to mind stability and control, and studying the relationship between the test result and accidents or violations. A questionnaire of twenty statements was devised and the results were validated by Chronbach alpha figures. There were no differences in mind stability between males and females, but females showed higher ability to control irritation and hurriedness. Significant differences in both stability and control appeared in age groups, with higher stability and control shown by older drivers. Mind stability was not so closely related to traffic violations as was control ability, which had a significant effect. For the covering abstract see ITRD E113725 (C 22328 CD-ROM).
