The Scottish Road Safety Campaign ( SRSC), committed to reducing deaths and serious injury to children, has developed an extensive range of road safety education resources for primary schools in Scotland. There is a concern that their application is inconsistent in both manner and frequency. A Road Safety Charter may be one means to encourage greater consistency and so improve road safety education. SRSC commissioned Carole Millar Research to undertake a study to explore the feasibility of developing a national road safety charter. The key aims of this research were to: * Identify successful components of existing charter schemes; * Explore the feasibility of developing a Primary School Road Safety Charter; * Provide guidance to that development. Key stakeholders were interviewed including Road Safety staff already working with a road safety charter and representatives of Eco Schools and Health Promoting Schools. Seven schools were subsequently visited. They all had experience of operating within one of these three initiatives. 38 telephone interviews were undertaken with head teachers or class teachers across 4 areas chosen to provide a spread of environments.
