Samenvatting

Software defined radio is regarded as one of the important technologies for realizing a multi-mode terminal for use in cars in the near future. Digital terrestrial broadcasting in Japan is scheduled for launch in 2003, and expected to provide high speed intelligent transportation systems (ITS) information cost-effectively. The authors first developed a software definable demodulator for OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation scheme that will be adopted for Japanese terrestrial digital broadcasting. Real-time software demodulation for a single segment of the ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial) signal is available using re-configurable devices with the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).
