Samenvatting

Increasing temperatures during summer have been a serious problem in Japan. In particular, urban areas where many high storey buildings have been built show significantly higher temperatures owing to the heat-island phenomenon. In order to mitigate this problem, a new surface treatment technology aiming at the reduction of surface temperatures on asphalt pavements has been developed. This involves coating specific materials which reflect both sunshine and infrared rays on existing asphalt pavements. This paper highlights the recent development of this technology and its application to the actual pavement.(a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E214938.
