Samenvatting

Various researches and examinations on the application of TDM (Traffic Demand Management) have been conducted since 1993 by Toyota. This paper reports the direction and modification of TDM, including the content of the experiment, the result, and analysis of survey regarding traffic and traffic congestion. Subjects of the experiment were those who commuted to company offices located in the center of the city by car. The result of the experiment indicates that the most effective methods are shifting commuting hour and encouragement of commuting by bicycle/motorcycle/walking. Also, the result of the survey shows that residents consider "providing traffic information" and "encouragement of public transportation"the most important. Residents wish to obtain such information as "traffic congestion, accident, and traffic regulation", "expected travel time" and "suggested route and detour". The authors conclude that ITS would be highly effective for the application of TDM, and that the employment of ITS would be of great benefit.
