Samenvatting

A number of measures are planned by the Dutch government to reduce car use, reduce damage to the environment and to improve road safety. This paper reviews previous studies carried out to assess public attitudes and considers the results of two further studies carried out in 1992 and 1994. A comparison of the support for measures in 1992 and 1994 shows little change. The reactions to various individual measures are discussed. Factors determining acceptance and possibilities for increasing acceptance are considered. A particular concern of the public are price-increasing measures where the use of revenue does not seem to benefit transport.
