The role of the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) in improving road safety in the UK is outlined. Educational initiatives include the development of resource materials and the Arrive Alive and Arrive Alive Classic programmes aimed respectively at 15-17 year olds and older drivers. Initiatives aimed at improving training and developing standards include the introduction of a voluntary driver logbook for learner car drivers, proposals for a system for continuous professional development for approved driving instructors, the Pass Plus course, advanced tests, and driver training for the fleet market, motorcyclists, lorry and bus drivers and taxi drivers. The introduction of the hazard perception test in the driving theory test and details of pass rates for the new theory test are described. The introduction of vehicle safety questions into the practical test and changes to the motorcycle test are outlined. For the covering abstract see ITRD E119888.
