Samenvatting

VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System) began supplying road traffic information in April 1996, with the aim of improving road traffic safety and achieving a smoother traffic flow. In April of this year, VICS celebrated its third year of service. During the time that VICS has been in operation, the service area and quality of the service have been improved. Furthermore, supported by favourable sales of car navigation systems, shipments of VICS on-board units have dramatically surpassed original estimates, which indicates users' high expectations for the VICS system. This report takes a closer look at the propagation rate of VICS on-board units and reasons for their popularity, as well as ways to encourage further achievements in this propagation rate in the future.
