Samenvatting
A couple of months ago in Vlaardingen, a medium sized town, the scramble- system was adopted as an experiment on one of the intersections in the city centre. This system implies that pedestrians may cross at a 45 degree angle during an all- red phase of the traffic lights for road traffic. The author discusses this experiment together with a comparable situation in Tokyo. He concludes that waiting times increase for all types of traffic, vehicles as well as pedestrians. In the United States the system was abandoned some time ago.
