Visibility distances for the driver of a private car were calculated as a function of the road curvature and of the position relative to a goods vehicle ahead, and also directly as a function of the carriageway. Values obtained were compared with the necessary visibility distances for overtaking. The radii of curvature at which the visibility distance is sufficient for overtaking vary widely, so that it is not possible therefrom to lay down a generally valid value for future alignments. However, a range of reasonable radii is given. Programs developed for computer evaluation are constructed.
