Samenvatting
44 cases were treated for traumatic rupture of the spleen. 39 patients suffered from additional injuries, mainly fractures, cerebral and thoracic injuries. In 7 cases a secondary rupture of the spleen occurred. The high mortality rate of 40.9% demonstrates the influence of severe additional organ lesions and prolonged time interval between accident and hospital admission respectively splenectomy.
