Samenvatting
The paper describes in what way the quality of a time table between origin and destination stations can be defined, taking into account the supply of local as well as rapid train services. The quality is related to travellers' choice behaviour. Only specific definitions of inconvenience prove to be consistent with respect to a priori assumption about the demand for transport.
