Samenvatting

A recent technical standard produced by ETSI (ETSI TS 102-361) provides the basis for a range of digital mobile radio solutions. The generic title Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) has been applied to this standard. It describesa number of services delivering voice and data that can be supported in existing mobile radio frequency allocations. In terms of radio systems it offers digital radio solutions that replace most of the formats of analoguemobile radio, both in the conventional and trunked form. This standard draws on much of the functionality of the popular MPT1327 trunking specification. This paper briefly introduces the DMR standard and describes how it may be translated into effective solutions for public transport operations. The three communications needs assessed in the public transport market are voice, data and security.
