Recognising identifiable traffic conditions, especially queuing, is probably the most important feature in proving route- choise information to network users. The Image Processing for Automatic Computer Traffic Surveillance (IMPACTS) system can provide a direct /connection between a sensing device (i.e. a TV camera) and a description of the traffic conditions, without the need to interpret detailed traffic parameters.
