Samenvatting

Macroscopic simulations of large freeway systems can be developed by modelling density as a discrete time process. This overcomes the prohibitively large computer resources required by microscopic simulation models. Time series models might also be used to forecast density for traffic responsive control of freeways, bridges, and tunnels. This study relied on continuous records of vehicle count in roadway sections of various lengths.
