Hughes et al. have provided a good service by further probing the published data on the relationships between transport fuel use, shedding more light on what that data shows about the apparent relationship between the gross area of a city (A) and the estimated amount of transport energy used within it (F), at least in the ubiquitous 'international cities' database.
