Samenvatting

Pedestrian traffic research has been neglected in comparison with vehicle traffic research in Australia and overseas. The effect of this neglect continues to have a pedestrian amenity at road crossings and at signal controlled intersections is discussed. The influence of ambiguous signal practices and poorly designed facilities on pedestrian behaviour is described. Some methods of overcoming to these problems are proposed.
