This report is mainly concerned with an analysis of published data regarding traffic education in the federal german republic. The following themes are dealt with in detail: basic orientation of traffic education (recommendations of the kmk regarding traffic education, 7.7.1972, road safety programme of the federal government and of the regional government) ordinances, regulations, information and teaching plans for traffic education in the individual states of federal republic; the situation regarding training and further training; the state of traffic education in german high schools based on an evaluation of lecture courses; the state institute for teacher training of the federal states and the special training seminars for traffic education; the proposals of the parties in the federal parliament, of relevant associations and institutions (dvr, traffic wardens, adac, adv, youth associations of german shell oil company) and relevant teaching works for traffic education. Furthermore questionnaires were despatched to specialists and school authorities in north rhine westphalia as well as to lecturers involved in traffic education in german high schools. The results obtained are evaluated from nine points of view: definition of the main aim, institutionalization, measurement of effectiveness, fixing in time, personal responsibility, training and further training, contents, teaching aims, methods.
