Samenvatting

DOM is a German research project on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research that started in November 2000 and will end in November 2002. DOM is the consequent integration and personalization of existing and new mobile services and regional information. The integrated services will be available on the Internet, via WAP mobile phones and PDAs. The idea is to provide the end user with a portfolio of services in order to plan a business or leisure trip on the Internet and to use these services and the information provided during pre-trip-planning on the trip itself. All mobile services are location-based, making it possible to provide the user with the services and information while taking his current location, the current traffic situation and his personal profile into account. The heart of DOM is the so-called "Reisemappe (travel-bag), in which all the planned information can be saved. This information can be used for other services or during the trip. DOM services are, for example, multi-modal routing, real-time traffic information, dynamic routing, personal time schedules for trains, hotel/restaurant/event-searching and booking, yellow pages, address and diary planner and a mapping service.
