In current architecture projects, attention is paid to strategic processes of traffic control and the systems to make traffic control possible, but attention for the definition and description of the traffic system which is affected by the traffic control is new for those projects. Earlier models were not adequate to describe all characteristics and processes in the traffic system that are affected by traffic control. The new model is called the 'Domain Model' and characterises the traffic system (the domain) in four parts: vehicles, road infrastructure/roadside systems, journeys and traffic flow. It forms a solid reference for the Architecture for Traffic Control (in Dutch: Architectuur voor VerkeersBeheersing, AVB) project. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
