Local support can be defined as the potential for the use of service points. Traditional public transport models, with a coarse division into zones, often overestimate the number of clients per stop or line. This paper mainly concentrates on the applications of the model for public transport services in relation to the technique of transport: bus, tram or metro. Based on an acceptable walking distance to the public transport stops, the model calculates the local support of a line and estimates the number of potential clients. The influence of other services is accounted for. Also, the number of seats offered to each client by public transport services in the neighbourhood is considered. The model is illustrated by examples of public support services in the Amsterdam region using socio-economic and geographical data.
