Samenvatting

This book looks at the historical role played by alcohol, brewing and distillation, and the range of alcoholic drinks available. It discusses the physiological effects of alcohol on the human body and the corresponding deterioration of control and response that can contribute to accidents. A large part of the book is concerned with international legislation on drinking and driving, and the new instrumental procedures employed to examine drinking drivers stopped by the police. The author is critical of the lack of international agreement on legal limits for blood alcohol levels and of the delays in implementing the recommendations of the Blennerhassett Committee in Great Britain.
