Samenvatting

Public attitudes towards drinking and driving appear to be becoming less tolerant. In an opinion poll conducted in February 1986, 47 percent of respondents favoured the adoption of a lower blood /alcohol limit. When motorists were considered alone, 44 percent wanted stricter limits. In 1977, only 31 percent of all motorists believed that a stricter limit was necessary. This data note presents trends in the Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of people killed in road accidents in Great Britain, together with trends in the use of breath tests and convictions for drink- driving offences since 1967.
