Samenvatting

Novice drivers are at greater risk of crashing. One of the reasons may be that they have not yet developed, through experience, some of the skills necessary to avoid accidents. Following a driving simulator research program at Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) a design specification for a CD-ROM based training product was developed. The aim is to accelerate young drivers development of risk perception, attentional control and time-sharing skills. The paper describes the research contributing to the design of the CD-ROM, the structure of the final product and the simulator-based evaluation of the training product, which is in progress. (A)
