To solve environmental issues, the authors proposed new driver assistancesystem for eco-driving, which drivers can continue to keep motivation about eco-driving comfortably. It has two characteristics quantitative evaluation of eco-driving skill and estimation of drivers motivation about eco-driving. Data of surrounding traffic condition obtained from intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology such as VICS were considered in this system. In this paper, authors focused on quantitative evaluation. Authors defined one of quantitative evaluation index as Eco-driving potential, which shows how much a driver can improve fuel consumption compared with other drivers. Authors explain the method and report experimental results conducted with the driving simulator.
